The Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund is a 20 million Euro grant scheme created to help European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) access their intellectual property rights. You too can take advantage of the opportunities for funding for trademark and design applications.
With the support of the European Commission and the EUIPO, the “Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund” is aimed at companies that want to develop their intellectual property strategies and protect their rights at national, regional or EU level. Small or medium-sized enterprises are eligible for funding. They can receive funding for trademark and design applications in the amount of max. EUR 1,500.
Who can claim a funding for trademark and design applications?
Only companies based in the EU with fewer than 250 employees and corresponding annual turnover or annual balance sheet total are eligible for funding.

In which time periods is funding available?
Funding can only be applied for in the following time frames at a time:
- 11.01.2021 bis 31.01.2021
- 11.03.2021 bis 31.03.2021
- 11.05.2021 bis 31.05.2021
- 11.07.2021 bis 31.07.2021
- 11.09.2021 bis 31.09.2021
Applications outside the time periods will not be considered.
The maximum total amount of funding is EUR 1,500.
For trademark applications, the subsidy amount is EUR 425,- per trademark in the European Union and EUR 145 in Germany. This is 50% of the basic fee in each case.
For design applications, the funding amount per application is EUR 230,- in the European Union and EUR 30,- in Germany. This is 50% of the basic fee in each case.
What else do you have to consider for the funding for trademark and design applications?
You must submit the funding request before filing the trademark or design application. If the funding request is approved, you will receive a grant decision signed by the Office. After receiving the grant decision, you can register the IP rights and then submit the invoice for reimbursement after payment.
